Ergonomics/Prevention

Ergonomic analysis and adaptation of a workstation (physical aspect)

This type of intervention refers to an assessment of the client’s work environment to identify risk factors related to work methods and the various components of a workstation including tools, equipment, products, tasks, organization, technology and environment. The occupational therapist can then propose strategies for modifying the task and recommend adaptations and specialized equipment as needed.

Ergonomic analysis and adaptation of a workstation (cognitive aspect)

A cognitive ergonomic evaluation consists of a study of interactions with predominantly informational products or systems that require the use of the major mental functions of the individual, such as perception, memory and information processing. It is based on analysis of the work activity in relation to functions such as mental load, decision making, executive functions, interaction with computers and stress management.

The occupational therapist conducts a workplace analysis, during which he or she completes an initial interview to obtain a brief medical history and information regarding the cognitive demands of the work tasks being performed. The therapist works with the employee to explore the job-related barriers and management strategies used. Some strategies are suggested during the initial meeting so that the employee can begin the process of change.

Preventive Seminars

Educational seminars are designed to enhance the knowledge of employees, supervisors and management personnel, to promote their well-being and life balance and to help them develop a safe and healthy work environment.  The seminars we offer cover topics related to office ergonomics as well as other topics related to physical, psychological and social well-being.

Sessions are presented in a way that encourages employees to be actively involved and thus maximize their learning potential in a stimulating and enjoyable atmosphere. They are structured to meet the specific needs of employees, including the number of participants, the presentation format, the presentation language, the schedule and the duration. The presentation format can range from a workshop to a theoretical model, to employee training.  Examples of presentation topics available could include education on computerized workstation ergonomics, load handling, preventative strategies for the travelling worker, use of hand-held smart devices and many other topics depending on the need.
